Dear Friends,
We have a little over seven weeks before the world turns upside down. It’s imperative that we use this time to build community, morale, resolve and strategy. We’ve been super busy since the election preparing our next step, and we’ll be making a big announcement about that this weekend!
But today, as we pause and give thanks, we want you to know that we count you among our dearest blessings. This work we do has always been people-powered. As we traveled the country over the last decades — bringing laughter and encouragement to the bluest dots in the reddest states — it was you guys who inspired us, challenged us, fed us (!), and literally kept the wheels of satire rolling. Thank you for being there for us. And thank you for being here on Substack as we now need to continue our work from home.
To show our gratitude, we invite you to attend a free online concert Roy will give on YouTube this Sunday, December 1 at 5pm Pacific Time. We hope you can watch the show live, but if not, the link will stay active for at least a month after the show.

We didn’t win the big victory earlier this month, but — going forward — we can and will amass lots of smaller victories. We’ve already dispensed with the horror that is Matt Gaetz. And as the final votes are being counted, it’s now certain that for the third presidential election in a row, more people voted against Trump than voted for him. We’re sharpening our pencils and working on a song to that effect even as we speak.
We’ve been following the vote tallying at the NBC site, and by our best “back-of-the-envelope” calculation (actually “margins-of-Melanie’s-Sudoku” calculation), the final percentage will be where it is today – 49.9% for Trump and 50.1% anti-Trump. We were hoping Trump’s share would drop down to 49.8% for rhyming sake (“49.8 is not a mandate”), but 49.9% is an equally hilarious fail for him. Womp womp!
So enjoy this day and then on we go … “This is the story of how we begin to remember …”
We are so proud to be in this good fight with you
Roy and Melanie
